    What this call funds

This call funds projects that use biotechnology to turn leftover biomass—like farm and forestry residues, food waste, algae byproducts, and sludge—into valuable products such as chemicals, materials, polymers, and enzymes. It supports scaling up promising lab processes to demonstration scale, including improving pretreatment, conversion, and purification steps. Winning projects should also work with feedstock suppliers, optimize logistics, and assess safety and environmental risks of the biotech processes.
